Legalities:

You will need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage provided by a celebrant. Alternatively you may obtain this form by click here. Notice is to be given at least one month and one day prior to the date of your ceremony but can be lodged up to 18 months prior to the ceremony. It can be lodged by fax or e-mail from overseas. To avoid disappointment or last minute hassles, I encourage you to choose your celebrant as soon as you can.

If born in Australia original copy of Birth Certificate only, if born overseas original copy of either the birth certificate or the passport of the country of birth will need to be presented before the marriage can take place, and duly noted on the NIM by the Celebrant . If lodgment is made from O/S a faxed copy can be attached, however the original must be sighted by the celebrant before the ceremony takes place.

Where there has been a previous marriage, original copy of either a Decree Absolute of Divorce, or Death Certificate if your previous partner is deceased, is required.

Can write letters to consulates, for marriages with fiancées from overseas.

If any of the documents are in a language other than English - official translations will be required.
